They are among the first people I reached out to. Suburban supermarkets are known for their ornate, hand-drawn advertisements (think Trader Joes). These people are specifically hired by local business to paint apples on cardboard, percentages on windows, etc. It’s a humble and visually distinct artisanship that I find quite captivating.
CONTACTS• East Side Design Shop • Mollie The Painter; she does the windows at our local deli • Trader Joes (McCandless Crossing) • Market District (Wexford)
THE BRIEF
I was thinking they could paint a shoe, celebrity, or cartoon animal in luxury clothing — either on an abandoned store window or a piece of cardboard. This would have been photographed and included as a captionless image.
VISUAL INSPIRATION
OUTCOME = UNSUCCESSFUL
I dropped off my contact details at supermarkets, sent emails, and followed-up with everyone periodically. Still no response!
